Capsouto Freres
Thirty years ago three brothers opened a chic French bistro in some godforsaken area called TriBeCa and I’m happy to report that it’s still as popular as ever. We went on one of the coldest days of the year, when the last thing we wanted to do was shag all the way downtown, but as we entered the casually elegant dining room ( inside a fabulous 1891 Fleming Smith landmark building) with tasteful fresh flower arrangements and warm lighting and were graciously welcomed by two of the bros (all right, so maybe Sammie wasn’t so gracious, but he was frickkin’ funny in a Seinfeld sort of way) we were happy we came.

Even more so after a few glasses of wine from their outstanding list, a spritely blue cheese and endive salad which played nicely with the rich Terrine De Foie Gras, followed by a belly-warming cassoulet chock full of duck, lamb, pork and sausage. Since Capsouto Frere has reigned supreme for decades as the “souffle sanctuary” we saved room for both the classic Chocolate as well as their seasonal Egg Nog selection….and they still rule!
