Haute Cuisine Dining: The Living Room, Calgary

According to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal about the housing boom in Calgary, a few “years ago, patrons who ordered $80 bottles of wine at The Living Room Restaurant and Lounge have recently traded up to $300 vintages.”

Part of this reason is the oil boom that’s overwhelming this Alberta province city of 1,000,000 people that now has a labor shortage, a lack of affordable housing, and other problems of rapid growth.

Back to the restaurant, though. The Living Room is a converted bungalow offering a twist on classic French and Italian cuisine with a distinctive Canadian touch served in a contemporary setting. You can order whole stuffed lobster, a 32-oz. Galloway natural beef prime rib, and much more, plus hundreds of bottles from its wine cellar.
