Google + Earthlink = Free Wi-Fi Across SF

We’ve all gone from coffee shop to hotel lobby in search of the holy grail for staying in touch: Free Wi-Fi.

By the end of the year all across the 40 hills of San Francisco, if all goes right, you’ll be able to pull in a no-fee, high-speed Internet signal, courtesy of Google and Earthlink. Their bid was selected over five competitors yesterday.

In other cities, Earthlink is charging $20 for this service. But with an estimated cost of $12 million that the two companies are footing, the city of SF and its citizens would pay zilch. Read the story at SF Gate.
