Girlyman :: Great Name, Cool Acoustic Sound

Girlyman

Girlyman. What a great name for a group. And what a fun, fresh sound.

I so wanted to hear this band in Seattle next month.

But I’ll be headed to the SATW (Society of American Travel Writers) national convention in Manchester, England that evening.

I recently heard the trio’s new CD, Joyful Sound, and loved the lyrics and acoustic sound. They’ve been receiving rave reviews across the country and have been the opening act for Indigo Girls. A good match, for sure.

Girlyman is Nate Borofsky, Doris Muramatsu and Ty Greenstein. The group started playing music together in New York City six years ago.

So what’s with the name?

“It’s playful and fun, and that’s who we are,” said Muramatsu. “But we also like that it hints at how we’ve never felt like we fit in. Nate wears make-up on stage, I’m a Japanese-American playing to mostly white audiences and Ty is a grown-up tomboy.

Here’s their upcoming concert schedule. Give them a listen if you’re in the neighborhood.
