Free Food-For-All: Tomato & Olive Oil Festival: San Francisco

It’s not every day that you get something free. But today is that kind of day at The Cannery at Del Monte Square, one of the historic gathering places near Fisherman’s Wharf, overlooking San Francisco Bay.

The San Francisco Tomato and Olive Oil Festival runs today from noon to 4pm — with free admission — to celebrate Del Monte’s history as the largest fruit and vegetable packing facility in the world.

Enjoy tastings of wines, salsas, olive oils, tomato dishes and specialty foods, fresh produce, cooking demonstrations, kids’ activities and live entertainment. It benefits the San Francisco Food Bank.

One of the featured guests will be Cristina Gershey, Culinary Director of Oakville Grocery, as well as a few of San Francisco’s leading chefs. They’ll present cooking demonstrations making use of heirloom tomatoes and olive oil.

Live entertainment on Saturday will include music from opera singers Robert Close and Litz Plummer on the Lark Stage.
