Exploring Motown’s Gems: Inn on Ferry Street, Detroit, MI
In the heart of the Historic District of Midtown Detroit is a collection of four restored Victorian historic homes and two Carriage houses that have been brought together to form the Inn of Ferry Street.
The main house, The Scott House, encompasses the main lobby, where you check in, check out and go for your breakfast, which is included in the price of the room. Coffee is available throughout the day and breakfast offers fruits, cereals, pastries and you can make your own waffles.
The other houses, The Pungs House, Roehm House, Owen House as well as the Raymond C. Smith Carriage House and the John R. Carriage House together offer 40 unique rooms, each with it’s own color scheme, mood, and layout. The rooms come equipped with a coffee & tea service, an armoire with a 25-inch TV, complimentary WiFi internet access, steam iron & full size ironing board, hair dryer, CD player and spa bath essentials. Some rooms have a whirlpool bath and a working area.
The lobby of each of building is as unique as each of the rooms. Guests can pick up a book from the lobby shelves or one of the cd’s laying around to get a taste of local sounds and readings. My room also included three of the CDs in my room to listen to. These aren’t to take home with you, but will give you a taste of local sounds while you are a guest.
The Inn is just steps from a whole collection of great city museums including the Detroit Institute of Art, Detroit Historical Museum, The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, as well as many galleries, music, restaurants and more.
If you want to venture a bit further, to Downtown Detroit, where there are many more things to go do, the Inn offers a complimentary shuttle that will drop off and pick up within a five-mile radius. Once you are downtown, you have many other galleries, restaurants, casinos, shopping, ferry rides, and many other exciting adventures awaiting you.
Detroit may have a bad rap, but you will certainly run out of time before you run out of interesting things to see and do in the revitalized city. The Inn on Ferry Street is the perfect place to base yourself while you explore all the gems Detroit has to offer.
