Blue Light Specials: Indigo, San Francisco

It’s not as fancy as some of the celeb chef eateries like Absinthe and Jardinere in the Hayes Valley/Civic Center Arts District of San Francisco near Herbst Theatre, Davies Symphony Hall and the War Memorial Opera House, but Indigo holds its own.

Offering simple New American cuisine, superb service, a high energy bartender who also delivers entrees, potent potables, and scrumptious desserts, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner while being bathed in blue spotlights from the bar. I had the Prix Fixe three-course meal for $29.95 — a great deal for the quality and quantity, with silky butternut squash soup, a huge pan roasted pork tenderloin chop and a crispy apple-cranberry crisp topped with vanilla ice cream. My wife had a tasty salad and broiled salmon.

According to its Web site, Greg Medow, proprietor, says, “I wanted to create an atmosphere that had the feel of a Manhattan lounge, but also the charm and warmth of San Francisco. Anna Veyna brought the elements of simplicity and elegance together by using Indigo colored fabrics and textures.”

They’re now taking reservations for Valentine’s Day with a Prix Fixe of $59 per person, beverages, tax and gratuity are additional.
