Big, Bold Bargain Red: Santa Ema Winery, Chile
My friends Jerry and Carol hosted a dinner party on Friday night. They were bragging about Santa Ema Wine from Chile and its 60/40 Cab Sauv/Merlot blend that cost only $6.49 at Costco.
The wine was superb — smooth, bold and tasty. In fact, it tasted more like a $20 varietal.
It featured “red fruits such as plum, blackberry and raspberry mixed with some toast giving complexitiy and elegance to this wine.” On the palate, it offered “a good body, fruity, round and elegant wine, with marked tannins which are well complemented with the wood without losing the varietal characteristics.”
