When I went to Venice during my college days, I can’t remember any of the restaurants where I dined. Maybe it’s because I was living on about $20 a day. On my next trip, however, I vow to splurge a bit at Cip’s Club, where the dinner traffic arrives on vaporetti (the city’s large floating public vehicles), gondolas or private water taxis.
The view of the Grand Canal and St. Marco’s Square is heavenly. The restaurant is informal, yet elegant. Parts of it — the two Palazzi of the Cipriani — date back to the 1400s. And it only seats 48 for dinner.
If you truly want to splurge, you can book a room in the Hotel Cipriani, renowned as the best Venice has to offer. For about $5,372 per night US, you can reserve the spectacular Dogaressa Suite, which was built in 2005 and features four gothic windows, original Coromandel screens, antique Chinese lamps, Fortuny and Rubelli fabrics.
