Shark Week Sneak Peek: Stuart’s Cove, Bahamas

From DiveNewsWire.com: Stuart Cove’s Dive Bahamas will host the annual Discovery Channel SHARK WEEK production for the 10th straight year. Beginning Sunday evening, July 17 at 9 pm EST, the two-hour Mythbusters JAWS Special premieres. Filmed on location earlier this year, the co-hosts Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage discuss common “shark myths.”

The Shark Adventure program at Stuart’s Cove is a 2-tank dive trip taking divers on an underwater encounter with Caribbean Reef Sharks. The first dive lets you participate in a “free swim” with the sharks along a beautiful wall. The second dive has the group forming a semi-circle on the 50-foot bottom and watching the professional shark feeder handing out pieces of fish by a pole spear from a bait box. The sharks are everywhere but don’t usually bother the divers.

Many movies have been filmed in the Stuart’s Cove area, making it the #1 underwater film production site in the world, including several James Bond films, a “Jaws” sequel, the “Deep Blue Sea”, “Splash” and the extemely unnerving “Open Water”.

Since 1978, Stuart’s Cove, owned and run by Stuart and Michelle Cove, has had a worldwide reputation as one of the best scuba diving operations. They offer diving, snorkeling, SUB aquanaut trips, and underwater digital photo classes to the reefs, wrecks, and coral walls of Nassau (New Providence Island) with quality dive masters and state-of-the-art equipment. As a diver who has been to three Bahamian islands, I know the diving is shallow, the water is warm, and the fish are spectacular… especially the Caribbean Reef Sharks.
