1811 Chateau d’Yquem sold at £75,000 in 2011
Considered an exclusive and highly valued wine of Bordeaux, this 200 year old wine, 1811 Chateau d’Yquem was again in the news headlines this year when private collector and wine connoisseur, Christian Vanneque bought it in July at a cost of £75,000 to celebrate the establishment of his new restaurant in Bali, SIP Sunset Grill. This amount has set another record among the collection of rare vintage wine bottles, and this is now officially the most expensive white wine in the world. The grapes, grown in 126 hectares of vineyard, are pressed thrice before they are put into oak barrels where these pressed grapes are left for nearly three years to mature. The sugar concentration in this wine is high. This rare sweet flavored white wine is an obsession for many wine lovers, and the chateau and vineyards of Sauternes are always there to offer a taste of their vintage white wine to those willing to pay for it.
