Hautel Couture: Dream Hotel, New York

Dream Theme, Dream Team, Dream Location! I’m off to New York in a few days for a fabulous Girlfriend-Getaway Week featuring great theatre, food and shopping. I still haven’t decided on where to stay (Don’t know if there’s a big convention in town or what, but WOW- my fav hotels are simply NOT offering any deals… tres $$$.)

But Hotelier Vikram Chatwal’s “Dream” come true definitely sounds worth checking out. Although, I don’t know if the surreal Felliniesque space with statues of Neptune, Catherine the Great, and Madonna’s, next to a huge spherical ceiling to floor acquarium leading to Subconscious, the Freudian cave-like underground lounge, might be just a wee-bit much.

What does sound tempting is the Healing Center that features Ayurvedic techniques taught by from Deepak Chopra, and all the guestroom niceties-both cozy: such as the cashmere-feel bathrobes, designer toiletries, Egyptian cotton sheets, ultra plush down comforters, and high tech stuff: pre-loaded iPod players, giant wall mounted plasma TV’s, and Bose Wave sound systems.

The crowning cherry of the 1895 renovated Beaux Arts building is a rooftop French Riviera-inspired lounge, Ava, (named after Ava Gardner) that offers panaramic views of Times Square.

A fun idea: The Loeb Boathouse, only four blocks from the Dream Hotel, offers rowboat rentals, bicycle rentals, rides in an authentic Venetian gondola and two dining venues.
