Declaration of Independence Air: Shutting Down

Less than 19 months after its initial flight, Independence Air will shut down on January 5th. The low-cost carrier had filed for bankruptcy protection in November but couldn’t find an investor.

I flew Independence last June from SFO to its hub at Washington Dulles and loved the service as well as the bargain fares. It competed with discount carriers like JetBlue, AirTran, UAL’s Ted and Southwest Airlines.
