Wild, Wiki Wiki Weather: Maui

The SF Bay Area is known for its weird microclimates. For example, on a typical summer day, it can be 90 degrees F at my home 20 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge and 55 F in fog-enshrouded San Francisco.

Maui had some wacky and wild microclimates yesterday. It was 81 F on the beaches but -2 F with the wind chill, 70 mph gusts, hail and rain at the top of Haleakala, the dormant volcanic crater that created the up country area of Maui. It’s been chilly when I’ve been there in March but 40 rather than 0 is the norm.
