What The Swiss Miss: No Smoking on Trains

“Rauchen Verboten” is the newest sign of the times on its trains as Switzerland recently became the latest European nation to announce its 3,000 train cars are all now smoke-free.

Trains in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Nortway and Sweden have also banned smoking. Believe it or not, according to Rail Europe, the French plan to prohibit smoking within a year on their trains. I’ll believe it when I see it (and don’t smell it). Though we did enjoy a great, smoke-free ride on the EuroStar Chunnel Train in December 2004.
