Paris Hilton wore one as a sequined tank. Mariah Carey wore one as a minidress. Reese Witherspoon says the clothes “go from day into evening –– great for moms who don’t have time to change.” And Oprah said she’s a member of Tory Burch’s fan club. So Tory has definitely arrived as a high priced designer –– and she did so by showcasing her gauzy tunics on Oprah’s TV show. Burch now has retails stores in Mahnattan, another in Los Angeles, and a few more will open soon.
Most of her pieces are moderately priced, with tank tops at $35 and espadrilles at $125. But a few are expensive to appeal to those who don’t mind paying more for the celebrity-embraced name. Burch said it all started in a Paris flea market a decade back when she spotted a 1960s polyester tunic and redesigned it for today. She said, “We will always do tunics. I am thrilled if I can help real women feel great getting dressed.”
