Summer Snowboard Fix: BigAir Fukuoka, Japan

Where can you find a 60-meter slope with real snow in the summertime? In the BigAir Fukuoka indoor ski and snowboard park, that’s where. The park is located in downtown Fukuoka, at Bayside Place along the Hakata Pier. It’s a huge three-story structure with quarter-pipes, half-pipes during the off-season, and slopes as steep as 13 degrees.

Along with the snowboard park, BigAir also has a skate park across the street if you get tired of the cold. The park is kept at –3 Celsius even in the summertime. They also have a café complete with gourmet coffee; food and beer; and games like billiards, darts and foosball.

BigAir offers a host of classes for the beginner, as well as jumps classes for the more advanced snowboarder. If you’re really into it, you can enter the jump competitions and win phat prizes like cash and snowboarding merchandise.
