Streetcars Named Desirable: Historic Trolleys Return to New Orleans

Yesterday, we’re pleased to report that the city of New Orleans resumed its streetcar service. Its utility poles and metal tracks had been knocked out by Hurricane Katrina.

Of the city’s 35 historic New Orleans streetcars that ran along St. Charles Avenue — the oldest continuously operating streetcar line in the world — six have now begun running along the Mississippi Riverfront line and part of the Canal Street line.
