Scuba & Sugar Sand Beaches: The Palms Resort, Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands

It may snow in the San Francisco Bay Area tonight, which is rare. But I’d much rather be strolling on the snowy, sugary white beaches on Providenciales in the Turks & Caicos chain, a 40-island archipelago south of the Bahamas and east of Florida. The weather is warm and sunny year-round and I proposed to my wife along the shores of Grace Bay on a six-mile-long stretch of deserted beach.

A new venue here is The Palms Resort featuring a Meditation Pool, a destination Spa, an infinity pool with a swim-up bar, a deck with circular sunning beds, Parallel 23 restaurant serving international cuisine and excellent scuba diving right off the shore. Here, you’ll see what I saw — parrotfish, stingrays, barracuda, conch, spiny lobster and an occasional harmless grey or nurse shark. It’s near Parrot Kay, where Keith Richards has a home and Jen/Ben stayed on their honeymoon.

Best of all, the guest rooms and suites offer pillowtop mattresses, 450-thread-count Egyptian cotton linens, flat-screen TVs and complimentary high-speed Internet access.
