Risky Business: Calling, Eating & Driving

In fact, this study monitored the behavior of 241 drivers in 100 vehicles who logged two million miles, got into 82 crashes and 751 near-crashes.
The findings? Multi-tasking drivers who put on makeup, eat food or chat on their cell phones are three times as likely to be involved in a crash as more attentive motorists:
• Almost 80% of crashes and 65% of near-crashes happen within three seconds of some form of driver distraction.
