Not-So-Mellow Yellow: Napa Valley Mustard Festival, Napa, CA

What do mustard and wine have in common? At first glance, more than you could possibly imagine as the annual Napa Valley Mustard Festival gets under way on January 28.

For 2006, this two-month tribute to wild mustard will host a masked opening event extravaganza called “Mustard Magic –– Laissez les Bon Temps Rouler” at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in St. Helena, honoring the flavors of New Orleans.

It will be followed by food, wine and art events throughout the Napa Valley through April 1, including:

• A seven-course dinnner at Auberge du Soleil in Rutherford;
• The mustard recipe competition in Yountville;
• Calistoga’s jazz festival;
• And much more.
