Retailing Flagship Goes West: Barney’s New York Moving to SFO

About 20 years ago, I bought a tone-on-tone dress shirt at Barney’s New York for $65. Though it was double what I normally paid for an oxford shirt, it was worth the bragging rights and the way it made me feel whenever I wore it.

Now, my fellow San Francisco shoppers can cherish the same luxury retailer experience when Barney’s takes over the abandoned 60,000 square foot, three-level space vacated by FAO Schwarz at Stockton & O’Farrell Streets in Union Square. This will be Barney’s fifth flagship store after New York, Beverly Hills, Chicago and Boston. It’s also in the process of building two more — in Dallas and Las Vegas.
