Let Them Eat: Citizen Cake, San Francisco

My wife is a frequent visitor to Citizen Cake, a patisserie restaurant-bar in the San Francisco arts district. Located on Grove at Gough, it’s literally a block or two from the venues for the Ballet, the Symphony and the Opera.

We strolled by last week to grab some desserts to go. Tough choice. Elizabeth Falkner, Owner and Executive Chef, has crafted a fabulously delicious line of cakes, with unique pastry flavors. She even makes gelato. One taste of the Guiness Beer Gelato had me wishing I’d had time for a whole bowl.

Ms. Falkner was named “Rising Star Chef” by the SF Chronicle in 1995 and was honored as one of the “10 best pastry chefs in America” in Bon Appetit in 2003. She crafts wedding, event and dessert cakes, Citizen Cupcakes, holiday pastries, plated desserts, seasonal desserts, party favors, chocolate candies, and much more, using over 85% organic ingredients.

Cake prices start at $9 per serving, from 1 tier to 6 for weddings and parties.
