Historic Crown Jewel :: Marriott’s Custom House, Boston

Marriott calls its Custom House the crown jewel of its global Marriott Vacation Villa Resorts. This 1847 edifice has elite status as a national historic landmark. It has a reputation as the costliest federal building ever built. For decades, ships sailed right up to its eastern stairs, and its officials then counted the tariffs levied on all ships’ cargos for decades. Its clock tower is a city landmark.

It has a killer location across the street from the Aquarium T stop. It’s one block from Boston’s Long Wharf, a half-block from Fanuiel Hall and Quincy Market. It’s along the Freedom Trail. It’s one block from the New England Aquarium. Its 26th floor Observation Deck offers 360 degree views of the city. Plus its a few blocks from downtown and the Italian restaurants in the North End, so it is truly a crown jewel of a resort.

Marriott’s Custom House has only 84 suites — just six per floor for the first 24 floors. But you must either be a Marriott Vacation Club owner or a very lucky individual to stay here. The nightly fare is about $325. Each suite has 650 square feet of living space with a king bed in the master suite, queen sofa bed in the living area, 2 TVs, DVD player, microwave, mini refrigerator and kitchenette.
