Great Golden Gate Views :: History and Luxury Co-Exist at Cavallo Point Lodge, Sausalito

When she was a toddler, I used to take my daughter to the Children’s Discovery Museum in Fort Baker, just north of San Francisco, offering drop-dead gorgeous views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Now, S.F. Bay’s first national park lodge is scheduled to open on June 1 adjacent to the museum. Called Cavallo Point, The Lodge At The Golden Gate, has those same great Golden Gate Bridge and bay views, along with luxury accommodations in 142 rooms and suites, a National Historic Landmark building, and 74 new buildings. Rack rates will be from $250 and up.

Better yet, the suites will pamper you with organic bedding and linens, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs. You can also indulge yourself in the Healing Arts Center and Spa’s 12 treatment rooms, heated basking pool, medicinal herb garden, and a French-inspired restaurant and bar. Love wine? Choose from among 13,000 bottles in the cellar.

If I didn’t live 15 minutes north of here, I’d spend a night or two.
