A Time Travelers Feast: Bracebridge Celebration, Ahwanee Hotel, Yosemite, CA

Since 1927, the national landmark Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park has hosted its Bracebridge Dinner, a Christmas season tradition of grand proportion that sells out months, perhaps a year, in advance.

This historic hotel surrounded by steep granite cliffs has hosted presidents — and myself — on occasion. Every holiday season, it turns into a 17th century Enlgish manor for a four-hour elegant feast of sumptuous food, strolling minstrels, 100 actors, song and mirth, inspired by Washington Irving’s Sketch Book, describing Squire Bracebridge and English traditions of that time.

The Ahwahnee Dining Room serves as the Great Hall and stage for the festivities and is decked with traditional Yuletide decorations. For 2005, the performances were on December 15th, 16th, 18th, 19th, 21st, 22nd, 24th and 26th. Seating begins promptly at 6:15pm.
