An Island Retreat on Lake Winnipeg? :: Radisson Resort Hecla

Hecla Sunset This is definitely NOT an oxymoron. Carlson Hotels Worldwide’s new, unique Radisson Resort Hecla is part Costa Rica eco-adventure, part Caribbean beach resort, part Florida waterpark with a three-story indoor waterslide, part European spa, and part fabulous cuisine. This spectacular island retreat on Lake Winnipeg was inspired by Nordic traditions, embodying the essential elements of rock, water, ice, fire and wood –– and bringing them together in a feast for the senses. Here, guests can conduct business, play golf, enjoy nature, maintain a healthy lifestyle, or simply relax.

An island getaway with a uniquely Canadian landscape.
The 90-room Radisson Resort Hecla is located on a pristine island within Hecla/Grindstone Provincial Park, just two hours north of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Surrounded by Lake Winnipeg, the 10th largest freshwater lake in the world, Hecla Island gives its visitors a taste of the coast in the middle of the continent.

First settled by Icelanders in 1876, Hecla Island is a haven for golfing, fishing, hiking, biking, skiing and snowshoeing. Visitors can also enjoy a number of beaches, historical sites, kayaking and other outdoor activities.

The Radisson Resort Hecla even has an on-site naturalist who has developed a number of fantastic adventures for guests to enjoy during their stay. Seasonal ‘One Day Wonders’ run the gambit from exploring areas that only the locals know, to snowshoe adventures to snake den safaris.

Hecla VillaBeautiful no matter how you look at it.
The resort brings the outside in with natural stone and rocks imported from Iceland. It’s been carved by water and ice. It features mural walls and banks of picture windows. It’s been lit by fire. And it’s been entwined by wood.

Get a great night’s sleep.
Radisson Resort Hecla features 90 spacious guest rooms and suites, each inspired by Nordic design to provide absolute luxury, comfort and relaxation. All are smoke-free and include either a platform king bed or two platform queen beds.

Most rooms boast the Sleep Number Bed by Select Comfort™, which uses uniquely designed air chambers to provide a gentle cushion of support and can easily be adjusted to personal preference for comfort and firmness. Each bed is accessorized with an upscale customized linen set, which includes white 250-thread count sheets, plush feather and down sleeping pillows, and cases and a luxurious duvet. In keeping with the natural beauty of the hotel, guests are treated to a special “natural” nightly turn down treat, such as a river rock engraved with an inspirational message.

Additional amenities include 32″ HD LCD flat-screen televisions with On-Command movies and satellite programming, generous workstations with ergonomic chairs, adjustable desk lamps, complimentary high-speed Internet access, in-room microwave and mini fridge, coffee and tea, and in-room safe. Pet-friendly rooms featuring hardwood floors, and accessible rooms are available upon request.
Every room features a beautiful washroom accentuated with marble, stone, glass and wood and boasting a deep soaker tub, multi-jet shower, and vessel sinks.

A Feast for the Senses.
Fabulous food is a major component of a great resort experience and behind every great dining experience is a fantastic chef. Stephane Pierre Thierry was born in France and has mastered his trade in hotels throughout Italy and Germany. He has served in several national and international gastronomic exhibitions, the most prestigious being the Culinary World Championships with the regional Merano team. He was awarded two gold medals and the European Cup in Vienna, Austria. He was awarded five gold medals and the best Culinary Team Award at the International Culinary Salon in Salzburg, Austria (IKA) with the National Italian Culinary team.

With Chef Thierry at the helm, the Radisson Resort Hecla offers three unique dining experiences:
• Rok Resturant and Lounge is a casual family restaurant offering American/Canadian style cuisine with menu selections that change seasonally.
• The Spa Café provides light fare lunches and healthy snacks including wraps and smoothies.
• For an epicurean adventure, L’Enoteca fine dining not only provides guests with a panoramic view of Lake Winnipeg, but Chef Thierry has created selections that fuse both international and local cuisine. To ensure excellent quality, all selections, even down to smoking local fish and creating savory cheeses, are prepared in house from scratch.

Did you even stay at the hotel? The spa isn’t even completed yet so not sure what you’re referring to. The villa photo is a computer rendition…there is no such villa on site at this point. Hotel has just had a refurb and is charging oer $250/night including tax. Grounds are not complete, resturants are expensive and don’t cater to families. To top it off..no hot water in the morning for a shower!

    Hi Sam:
Sorry to hear this about the villa and spa. I wrote this post from a press release sent to me by their PR company so I thought it was fully operational.
Thanks for pointing out the real story behind the story.
    Gil
