Crowne Plaza Dublin-Airport :: A Welcome Respite

Crowne Plaza Dublin-Airport room
After nearly two weeks of driving and barging through Ireland, what a delight to spend our final night at a beautiful hotel less than two miles from Dublin International Airport.

With an early morning flight back home to Seattle, we wanted to be close to the airport. I wasn’t expecting anything special when we booked rooms at the Crowne Plaza Dublin-Airport. Their Website doesn’t do it justice, as it’s a wonderful property.

Located in a parkland setting just five miles from downtown Dublin, the Crowne Plaza (the first one in Ireland) is in a peaceful setting but with all the benefits of a modern, urban environment. In-room features include high-speed Internet access, digital entertainment system, mini-bar, iron and even a trouser press (not necessary for my tired jeans).

There are 204 air-conditioned rooms on four floors, with king beds offered as standard fare in double rooms. There is a bar and lounge, restaurant and 24-hour room service. My only complaint was that the coffee bar in the lobby, which serves Starbucks, doesn’t open until 9 AM. I was long gone by then.

There’s also fitness center and just outside is an expansive park adjacent to the hotel, perfect for an early morning or after-dinner stroll. Downtown Dublin is just a quick cab ride away.

The hotel is spacious and contemporary, with a friendly staff. One of my travel companions left her make-up bag behind and the hotel has been extremely helpful in making arrangements to send it back to her.

Now, if only Dublin International Airport could be such a class act!
