With expensive flights and the weak dollar, Europe is slow to become a luxury destination — especially during peak season.

Here are a few examples:
• Spend a week on “postcard perfect” Roatan Island off the coast of Honduras in rooms starting at $10.
• Visit the Sahara, enjoy camel rides, and exotic marketplaces in Morocco from $30-$50 a day.
• Skip the resort towns and explore Mexico’s colonial towns on $40-$75 a day.
