According to the Mercer survey covering 214 cities of the world, Luanda, capital of the oil-rich Angola, has been ranked as the most expensive city in the world. The city had achieved the same status in the year 2009 as well, having displaced Tokyo from the top slot.

According to estimates, rent for a two-bedroom flat in the city comes to more than $3,500 each month. Here, lunching at a restaurant will set you back by $47 on average. Movie tickets will cost you $13. If you want to buy a household appliance like a washing machine you will have to pay an average of $912 or more. Cheeseburgers will cost you a neat $15 and haircuts $150! For a gym membership for one year you would have to shell out a whopping $2,500, while housing in any safe neighbourhood will cost you about $10,000 per month.
