BC’s Sooke Harbour House: Wine away the days

Beachcombers

One of Vancouver Island’s legendary inns has some sublime specials for spring. Sooke Harbour House, about an hour’s drive from Victoria, British Columbia, is one of the Pacific Northwest’s most original and unique lodgings. Serving up cozy accommodations and fabulous food since 1979, I first stayed there shortly after it opened. At that time, owners Frederique and Sinclair Philip’s inn consisted of a small dining room and five small guest rooms. Today, the couple’s labor of love features 28 guest rooms, a beautiful dining room, plenty of local art and a small spa. They describe it as “an elegant country auberge on the edge of the Pacific Ocean.”
