Everyone knows that travellers move from hotel to hotel. But what about a hotel that moves from city to city? Enter the Hotel Everland. Built by Swiss artists Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann for the 2002 Swiss National Expo, it was initially located on the lake of Yrevdon in Switzerland. After the Expo, it moved to roof of the artists studio in Burgdorf. And in 2006 it relocated to the roof of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Liepzig, Germany.
Complete with concierge, this unique one-room art hotel offers guests absolute comfort. It features a King size bed, luxurious bathroom with mini pool, and a lounge with a wide view window offering fabulous views of the city. Breakfast (delivered) is included in the costs. You’re invited to ‘steal’ the embroidered bath towels. And there’s even a Mini Cooper available for guests that want to do a little sightseeing at ground level.
There is, however, a catch. During the day, guests have to put up with the inquisitive art lovers peeking in. But come nightfall, Hotel Everland is accessible only to the hotel guests.
Bookings need to be made via the www.everland.ch website and can only be made up to three months in advance.
But be aware. Another move is due August 2007, this time to Paris, France. Here, the Hotel Everland will reside on the roof of the Palais de Tokyo, facing the Eiffel Tower.
