Think Pink for Valentine’s Day

Inniskillin Ice Wine

In the world of Canadian icewine, Inniskillin presents the rarest of its luxurious range just in time for Valentine’s Day. Meet the 2006 Cabernet Franc Icewine. The Cabernet Franc’s heavenly aromas and rich flavors are enhanced by its brilliant carmine color. This particular harvest has produced an icewine with an abundance of fruit aromas on the nose, strawberries and cream on the palate, a smooth finish and a bright acidity that’s the hallmark of an outstanding vintage. It also has the distinction of pairing beautifully with chocolate. Inniskillin Cabernet Franc Icewine 2006 is sold throughout the US in fine wine stores and at wine.com. It retails around $95 for a 375 milliliter half-bottle.

Ooh, this looks interesting – I’ve always been a fan of ice wines, but I have only had rieslings (here are some good ones – http://www.3luxe.com/category/White_Wine/Ice_Wine). This looks perfect for Valentine’s Day as well – perhaps paired with a decadent dark chocolate dessert!

I wonder if it is as sweet as white ice wines, or if the Cabernet makes it a little drier.

Thank you Sue! You get the award for being resourceful in regard to sourcing the photo.

Jacqueline: the Cab Franc Icewine is, indeed, a bit drier and is perceived on the palate as not being as sweet as the Vidal or Riesling Icewines. It also has a great deal more fruit flavor, mainly strawberries. And yes: DARK chocolate desserts or even the en vogue 65% and higher cacao content chocolates. I tried it with Scharffenberger and Ghiradelli bittersweets and it was absolutely perfect.

Full disclosure: I am the independent pr and marketing guru for Inniskillin Icewines. That said, I am also addicted to this stuff.

Reading these comments mid-day is very painful, I must say. But alas, I’ll stick to a few almonds and some fresh squeezed juice for my afternoon snack. But not on Valentine’s Day!
